Used Nikon ZR 6K Full-Frame Cinema Camera
The Used Nikon ZR is a compact full-frame cinema camera that brings together Nikon’s imaging and autofocus technology with RED’s renowned colour science and RAW workflow. Designed for filmmakers who need professional cinema capabilities in a lightweight, highly portable body, the ZR can capture 6K footage at up to 60p while weighing about 535g. At the heart of the ZR is a 35.9 × 23.9mm full-frame sensor capable of producing more than 15 stops of dynamic range. The camera introduces R3D NE, a 12-bit REDCODE RAW format developed specifically for the ZR, giving filmmakers extensive control over exposure, ISO and colour during post-production while integrating into RED-based workflows. The ZR also features RED Log3G10 and RED colour science when recording R3D NE, allowing footage to integrate naturally into established RED post-production workflows. R3D NE files can be worked with using REDCINE-X PRO and RED’s Log3G10 workflow.
RED R3D NE RAW
One of the defining features of the Nikon ZR is its integration of RED’s R3D RAW technology and colour science. R3D NE provides 12-bit RAW recording with control over key image parameters during post-production, while RED Log3G10 provides a familiar starting point for filmmakers already working within RED workflows. This makes the ZR particularly useful for productions that need a compact camera capable of delivering footage that can sit comfortably alongside larger RED cinema cameras.
32-Bit Float Audio
The ZR takes a different approach to on-camera production audio with 32-bit float recording, providing a wide dynamic range and significantly reducing the risk of clipped audio levels during recording. The camera also features five built-in microphone pickup patterns, including front narrow, front, rear, omnidirectional, and binaural options. For filmmakers working with small crews, documentary teams, interviews, run-and-gun productions or independent projects, this allows high-quality audio capture without necessarily requiring a separate audio recorder for every setup.
Built for Filmmakers
The ZR features a large 4-inch vari-angle DCI-P3 touchscreen monitor with a 1000-nit brightness rating, providing a high-quality display for monitoring footage, framing, and camera control. The filmmaker-oriented interface includes tools such as focus peaking, zebra patterns, waveform monitoring, LUT display assist, virtual horizon, and touch autofocus. The camera also supports custom LUT loading, allowing filmmakers to load up to 10 LUTs and preview their desired look directly on the camera’s monitor.
Advanced Autofocus & Stabilisation
Nikon’s advanced autofocus system uses deep-learning subject detection to recognise and track a range of subjects, including people, animals, vehicles and other moving subjects. The ZR also features built-in electronic stabilisation capable of providing up to 7.5 stops of stabilisation with compatible lenses, making it particularly useful for handheld and mobile shooting.
Nikon Z Mount Versatility
The ZR uses Nikon’s Z mount, giving filmmakers access to Nikon’s extensive range of NIKKOR Z lenses as well as compatible third-party lenses and adapted optics. Its compact body and full-frame sensor make it suitable for a wide range of shooting configurations, from lightweight handheld and gimbal setups to fully rigged cinema builds.
