The Sony PXW-Z300 is a professional 4K XDCAM camcorder designed for demanding news, documentary, corporate, live production, and field-based shooting. Combining three 1/2-type 4K Exmor R CMOS sensors with Sony’s powerful BIONZ XR image processing engine and dedicated AI Processing Unit, the PXW-Z300 delivers detailed, high-quality 4K imagery with professional handling and workflow flexibility.
The three back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensors provide a resolution of 3840 x 2160, with high sensitivity, wide dynamic range and excellent colour reproduction. The BIONZ XR processor enables full-pixel readout for detailed 4K footage, while Sony’s advanced AI Processing Unit provides intelligent subject recognition and autofocus performance for keeping human subjects accurately tracked in challenging shooting situations. At the front of the camera is an integrated 17x optical zoom lens, offering an extensive 30.3–515mm equivalent focal range with a constant maximum aperture of F1.9 throughout the zoom range. This provides the flexibility to move from wide-angle interviews and establishing shots to detailed telephoto coverage without changing lenses.
The PXW-Z300 is designed for intuitive professional operation, with independent focus, zoom and iris rings for direct fingertip control. An electronic variable ND filter provides smooth exposure adjustment from 1/4 to 1/128 ND, while built-in optical image stabilisation helps minimise camera shake during handheld shooting. For monitoring, the camera features a 3.5-inch high-brightness LCD monitor with approximately 2.76 million pixels, designed to provide clear viewing even in bright shooting environments. A flexible LCD arm allows the monitor to be positioned to suit different operating styles, including shoulder-mounted and handheld configurations.
The PXW-Z300 supports a range of professional recording formats to suit different production and post-production requirements, including XAVC Intra and XAVC Long in 4K and HD. XAVC Intra supports 10-bit 4:2:2 recording, while the camera also offers proxy recording for more efficient file handling and workflows. With the integrated 17x zoom, professional controls, advanced autofocus, variable ND, extensive connectivity, and robust XDCAM workflow, the PXW-Z300 is built for productions where reliability, speed, and operational flexibility are essential.
