The Used RED KOMODO-X Z Mount is a compact professional cinema camera designed to deliver RED’s renowned image quality and RAW workflow in a highly versatile, lightweight form factor. Building on the original KOMODO platform, the KOMODO-X brings enhanced performance and connectivity while retaining the compact design that makes the KOMODO family particularly well suited to handheld, gimbal, drone, vehicle and compact cinema rigs. At the heart of the KOMODO-X is a 6K Super 35 global shutter CMOS sensor, delivering detailed RED imagery while eliminating the rolling-shutter distortion commonly associated with fast camera movement and rapidly moving subjects. The global shutter makes the camera particularly useful for action, commercial, automotive, sports and other productions where motion accuracy is critical. The camera records 6K REDCODE RAW (R3D), providing filmmakers with the extensive image flexibility associated with RED’s RAW workflow. Exposure, white balance, ISO and colour information can be adjusted in post-production while retaining the original RAW image data, giving colourists and cinematographers significant control over the final look.
Z Mount Versatility
This version of the KOMODO-X features a Nikon Z mount, opening the camera up to Nikon’s extensive range of NIKKOR Z lenses as well as a broad selection of compatible third-party and adapted optics. The Z mount makes the KOMODO-X particularly versatile for filmmakers who already work within the Nikon Z ecosystem or want the flexibility to build different lens configurations around the camera.
REDCODE RAW
One of the major advantages of the KOMODO-X is its ability to record RED’s R3D RAW format. Rather than permanently baking many image parameters into the recorded footage, the camera preserves RAW sensor information while recording image settings as metadata. This gives filmmakers extensive flexibility during post-production, allowing exposure, white balance, ISO and colour decisions to be refined during the grading process. For productions already working with RED cameras, the KOMODO-X can also integrate naturally into existing RED post-production workflows, making it a practical compact A-camera, B-camera or specialised production camera.
Global Shutter
The KOMODO-X’s global shutter sensor captures the entire frame simultaneously, avoiding many of the geometric distortions associated with rolling-shutter sensors. This is particularly valuable when shooting fast-moving subjects, rapid camera movement, vehicle work, action sequences or VFX-heavy productions, where maintaining accurate geometry and motion is important.
