The Used Blackmagic Video Assist 5″ 3G Monitor Recorder is a compact professional monitor and recorder designed to add high-quality monitoring, recording and professional video-assist tools to cameras with SDI or HDMI outputs. Combining a bright 5-inch touchscreen display with professional recording formats, scopes, focus tools and 3D LUT support, Video Assist provides filmmakers and camera operators with a versatile solution for both production and post-production workflows. The Video Assist 5″ 3G supports HD video recording in Apple ProRes and Avid DNxHD formats, providing professional, edit-ready files that can be integrated into a wide range of post-production workflows. It can also be used purely as an external monitor when recording internally on the camera.
Professional Monitoring
The 5-inch touchscreen provides a clear, detailed view of your camera’s image while giving operators quick access to essential monitoring and recording controls. Video Assist includes a comprehensive range of professional monitoring tools, including focus peaking, 1:1 pixel-to-pixel viewing, focus zoom, zebra, false colour, histogram, waveform, vectorscope and RGB parade. These tools make it easier to accurately assess focus, exposure and colour while shooting. The touchscreen interface provides quick access to commonly used settings, while the physical buttons on the unit allow for fast control of recording, playback and monitoring functions.
SDI & HDMI Connectivity
The Video Assist 5″ 3G features both 3G-SDI and HDMI connections, allowing it to work with a wide range of professional cinema, broadcast and mirrorless cameras. SDI connectivity makes it particularly suitable for professional cinema and broadcast environments, while HDMI compatibility allows it to integrate easily with DSLR and mirrorless camera systems. The unit can be used as an on-camera monitor, external recorder, director’s monitor or production monitor, depending on the requirements of the setup.
Professional Recording
Video Assist records directly to SD cards, providing a practical and portable recording solution without requiring a separate external recorder. Supported recording formats include: Apple ProRes HQ | Apple ProRes 422 | Apple ProRes LT | Avid DNxHD. Recording externally can provide longer recording times, professional codecs and a more efficient workflow for editing and post-production.
3D LUT Support
The Video Assist 5″ 3G supports 3D LUTs, allowing filmmakers to preview a desired colour grade or creative look while shooting. LUTs can be applied to the monitoring output without permanently altering the recorded footage, making them particularly useful when working with log and flat picture profiles.
Built for Production
Designed for professional production environments, the Video Assist 5″ 3G features a compact body that can be mounted directly to a camera rig, tripod, gimbal or other production setup. The built-in stereo microphones, headphone output and speaker provide additional options for monitoring recorded audio, while professional audio meters help operators keep track of incoming levels.
