Sony’s optical and mechanical design places the center of gravity closer to the camera body, contributing to comfortable handling and reduced fatigue during extended shooting sessions.
The compact dimensions make it easier to carry into the field and allow photographers to follow subjects more naturally when shooting handheld. The removable tripod foot can also be detached when a slimmer setup is preferred.

The FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS uses a sophisticated 24-element, 17-group optical design incorporating Super ED and ED glass elements to help suppress chromatic aberration while maintaining high-resolution performance across the frame. The focusing system is designed to support continuous shooting and video applications, including compatible Sony camera bodies capable of high-speed continuous shooting of up to 120 fps. Four focus-hold buttons and a focus-range limiter provide additional control when tracking unpredictable subjects.

Sony notes that the design is not guaranteed to be completely dust- or moisture-proof.
The front element features a fluorine coating that helps repel water, oil, and other contaminants while making the surface easier to clean. A 95mm filter thread allows photographers to use compatible screw-in filters for additional creative control.
Extend Your Reach with Sony Teleconverters
For subjects that demand even greater magnification, the FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS is compatible with Sony’s optional SEL14TC 1.4x and SEL20TC 2.0x teleconverters.
With the 1.4x teleconverter, the lens becomes an 840mm f/8 super-telephoto, while the 2.0x teleconverter extends the reach to an impressive 1200mm f/11. Sony states that autofocus and auto-exposure functionality are retained when using these compatible teleconverters.
This provides additional flexibility for photographing extremely distant wildlife, birds, aviation, and other subjects where maximum reach is critical.
