Description
Flanders Scientific VP651 65″ QD-OLED HDR Reference Monitor
The Flanders Scientific VP651 is a professional 65-inch 4K QD-OLED HDR reference monitor designed for high-end colour grading, HDR mastering, broadcast and post-production environments. Combining exceptional image performance with professional SDI connectivity, it provides a large-format reference display for colourists, production teams and clients.
Built around the same premium QD-OLED panel technology as Flanders Scientific’s flagship XMP651, the VP651 delivers up to 4,000 nits of peak luminance and an impressive 8,000,000:1 contrast ratio. It is qualified for Dolby Vision mastering monitoring, allowing users to evaluate demanding HDR content with exceptional highlight detail, deep blacks and accurate colour reproduction.
4,000-Nit QD-OLED HDR Performance
The VP651 uses Quantum Dot OLED technology to deliver high brightness, wide colour reproduction and precise per-pixel luminance control. Unlike LCD displays that rely on backlight zones, each pixel produces its own light, allowing the monitor to reproduce true blacks alongside exceptionally bright highlights without blooming or haloing.
With peak luminance of approximately 4,000 cd/m² at L18 and 400 cd/m² full-screen, the VP651 is designed for demanding HDR workflows. Its 10-bit panel supports more than one billion colours, while its wide viewing angle helps maintain consistent image quality for both operators and clients.
GaiaColor AutoCal and Professional Calibration
Flanders Scientific’s GaiaColor AutoCal system makes maintaining display accuracy straightforward. The VP651 arrives factory calibrated and supports direct connection of compatible measurement probes, allowing volumetric calibration to be performed directly on the monitor without requiring a computer.
AutoCal profiles the monitor’s native state and stores the calibration data in memory. The monitor then uses this profile to calculate calibrated states for its available colour space selections, allowing operators to switch between monitoring configurations without repeating the calibration process.
For more advanced calibration workflows, the VP651 is compatible with third-party solutions such as Calman and ColourSpace. Custom 3D and 1D LUT calibrations can be loaded using Flanders Scientific’s supported calibration LUT formats. Tetrahedral LUT interpolation provides precise colour processing.
GaiaColor Analyzer for Calibration Quality Control
The integrated GaiaColor Analyzer provides a convenient way to verify calibration performance. Connect a compatible probe and run a quality-control report directly on the monitor, with results displayed on-screen in as little as 60 seconds.
The two most recent reports are saved in the monitor’s memory and can be retrieved using Flanders Scientific’s free IP Remote Utility. Reports can also be exported as PDF files for documentation and quality-control records.
Professional SDI Connectivity and Quad View
Designed for professional video facilities, the VP651 features four 12G-SDI inputs, each with a dedicated clean loop-through output. This provides flexible signal routing for production, broadcast and post-production environments.
The monitor also includes HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 inputs, with support for signals up to 120Hz. Its Quad View mode allows up to four video sources to be displayed simultaneously, making it useful for multi-camera productions, broadcast control rooms and image comparison workflows.
Each input can be configured independently for colour gamut, EOTF, white point and luminance. Quad View does not require genlock when the connected sources share the same frame rate.
8K Signal Compatibility and Low-Latency Scaling
Although the VP651 has a native UHD resolution of 3840 x 2160, it can accept 8K UHD and 8K DCI signals through supported multi-link SDI configurations, including quad 12G or 6G connections. Supported formats include 12-bit 4:4:4 signals.
The monitor uses high-quality bicubic scaling to display HD and higher-resolution sources while preserving their aspect ratio. Processing is designed for near-real-time, low-latency performance, while 1:1 pixel mapping provides a direct reference viewing mode for critical image evaluation.
Fanless Aluminium Construction
The VP651 combines a graphite heatsink with an all-aluminium chassis to dissipate heat without relying on cooling fans. This fanless design reduces operating noise and maintenance requirements, making it well suited to quiet colour grading suites, post-production rooms and professional installations.
Remote Control and Monitoring Tools
The VP651 supports several remote-control options for integration into professional facilities. Flanders Scientific’s free IP Remote Utility provides Ethernet-based control from Mac and Windows computers, with an iOS version also available. It can also be configured for use with an Elgato Stream Deck.
Additional control options include RS-485 serial control, GPI contact closure and an optional wireless remote system. Users can save up to five custom configurations for quick access to frequently used monitoring setups.
Professional Monitoring Features
The VP651 includes a range of tools for image evaluation and quality control, including customisable LUM false-colour exposure monitoring, PQ-based nit scales for HDR, Blue Only, Red Only, Green Only and monochrome modes.
A comprehensive selection of standard aspect-ratio and safety markers is available, with support for custom 1920 x 1080 PNG overlays. Automatic SDI payload identification also helps the monitor detect signal characteristics such as bit depth, colour format and RGB or YCbCr encoding.
Please note: The VP651 is part of Flanders Scientific’s streamlined VP Series. It includes the core professional monitoring tools and GaiaColor calibration features, but does not include the advanced XMP Series features such as waveform, vectorscope, Look LUT support and LiveGrade integration.
